I’m still in awe of the outpouring of support we have received since sharing the news that our 13-year-old son Morgan has cancer. Today Morgan had a biopsy done and we can now put a name to this disease – Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Outside of his oncologist saying he was mistaken this was the best possible news we could have received. It is the most curable of juvenile cancers and has a 90% cure rate.
We will find out what stage he is in on Monday when he has a PET CT scan done to determine how far the disease has spread. That will determine how long it will take to treat so right now we’re looking at anywhere from 2 to 8 months.
He came out of surgery well, and they have released him to rest at home which we are extremely thankful for. We are extremely thankful for the support of our families, church family and friends.
Several of Morgan’s friends and cousins declared today “Mo Awareness Day” and wore blue to demonstrate solidarity with Mo. He even had kids he doesn’t even know where blue on his behalf. We had people we don’t know contact us to encourage us and to let us know we’re praying. There were four gentleman who committed to fast and pray for us today. I don’t even know how many church prayer lists he’s on right now. I just know he has people all over the country praying for him and many of these people he’ll never meet this side of heaven.
We are deeply humbled and touched. I’m not really a crier, but I was in tears last night and today reading through these messages. God is so good.
One story I’d like to share from today and Cheryl and I believe it is because of your prayers. His anesthesiologist had a hard time pre-surgery keeping his oxygen level up. Morgan was never in danger, but it wasn’t at the level they really wanted it to be before they got started. They decided to go ahead and start. He said he got him to the operating suite and turned him on his side and it immediately went up. He told my wife, “I don’t know what happened.” We know. That oxygen level was nothing for God and we know many, many people were interceding on Morgan’s behalf.
Oh we’ve started a Caring Bridge site for Mo… I’m sure I’ll keep giving updates periodically here, but this I’m sure will keep you better informed. Monday is going to be a long day.
