The newly released iPad Mini
Android vs. Apple OS which do you think is better? Which has a brighter future. I love tech toys. I don’t have a tablet yet… saving my pennies, but I have to wonder if iPad really is the way to go in the future. I know Apple apologists would be horrified to hear me say that, but I have a couple of concerns. The first is price, for instance Apple is already having to justify the price of their new 7” mini-iPad which is priced at $329. Mini tablets running the Android OS: Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7 are priced at $199.
The original 10” iPads I know are still the king of the hill in that category, but Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1 looks pretty impressive and innovative. Then there’s Microsoft’s Surface running Windows RT or Windows 8… ah never mind. I don’t see them competing long term. Anyway, I don’t know if Apple will be king of the hill much longer.
I currently have an Android OS phone – HTC Evo Shift. I don’t recommend it. I like Android, but I don’t like this phone or the network I’m on (Sprint). I’m waiting until April when my contract is up for a different phone. I thought I’d go for an iPhone, but now I’m not so sure. The iPhone 5 was underwhelming, in my opinion, with its updates. There was very little innovation.
Which brings me to my next beef with Apple – I don’t know how much longer Apple, post-Steve Jobs will be able to compete and innovate. He really seemed to be the creative genius behind their products. Perhaps I’m wrong, but when Apple had to sue Samsung over minor issues you have to wonder if they’ll be able to keep up. They won their lawsuit (Samsung recently countered with a lawsuit of their own), but basically told the world that Samsung’s Galaxy S III is almost like the iPhone, but cheaper. Samsung, while paying a steep price, can’t ask for a better marketing campaign than that.
Anyway Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III are starting to level the playing field. So I’m not convinced about converting to Apple.
Thoughts? Any Apple apologists or Android apologist who would like to weigh in?
