Coronating candidates

Republicans and Democrats are dead set on giving us a rematch that a majority of the electorate has made pretty clear we don't want.

I don't think coronating candidates is healthy for a political party, and both Republicans and Democrats are dead set on giving us a rematch that a majority of the electorate has made pretty clear we don't want. 

Democrats have drummed out any serious challengers and are rallying around President Joe Biden and Republicans are about to do the same with former President Donald Trump.

New Hampshire was Nikki Haley's best shot at beating Trump, and she fell short.

As I suspected, polling following the Iowa Caucus saw a Trump surge. He almost matched his polling average - 55.8 percent - hitting 54.5 percent of the vote as I write this (with 85 percent reporting). Haley outperformed her average polling, 36.5 percent, with 43.7 percent likely from picking up more former DeSantis supporters and independent voters than Trump. 

Haley vows to continue to fight on, but I wouldnt' be surprised if she drops before South Carolina. I hope she doesn't, but I certainly would understand if she did. Contested primaries are good for parties, and voters deserve a choice, but it seems that the Republican establishment wants to nix that.
